$1 Billion NFL Toss Up

Reuters Business  Report - The Daily Digit is $1 billion a year.

That is what the National Football League is currently getting for rights to its all you-can-watch Sunday ticket.

But the current contract with DirecTV ends next year and there could be a new competitor on the field.

Executives from Google and YouTube had a little chat with people over at the NFL and the topic certainly came up, according to technology blog AllThingsD.

It's just a report of a talk, but still, for Google snagging the rights would be a touchdown. It would put America's most watched sport in the hands of YouTube the most watched video service and Google, the most used search engine.

And would certainly send shivers through the media world -as live sports programming and its fans are cash cows for traditional cable and satellite TVproviders.

Google with a $288 billion market cap certainly has deep enough pockets to pay for the rights.
