GERMANY-DAIMLER SNAP - Luxury car maker Daimler is expanding its cooperation with Renault and Nissan to develop electric cars.

The German firm is in a race to meet new EU emission standards which are about to become stricter to fight global warming.

From 2020 overall carbon dioxide emissions from new European cars will have be around 95 grams per kilometre.

New technology is still in its infancy and Daimler says it won't be able to meet that target without electric vehicles.

A deal in April between Renault, its partner Nissan and Daimler focussed on small cars, engines and light commercial vehicles.
