For the second time this month Hewlett-Packard announced plans to buy a company outside of its core computer manufacturing operations.
USA-MARKET UPDATE - Hewlett-Packard is continuing to expand outside of its core personal computer business. HP, the world's largest PC maker, offered to buy ArcSight for $1-1/2 billion in cash. Earlier this month, HP won a bidding war for data storage company 3PAR for $2.4 billion.
New global bank regulations are being welcomed. While banks will have to have more capital on hand in case of more big losses, the banks will have more time than previously thought to raise that capital.
BP should be able to reinstate its dividend early next year, according to an analyst at Citigroup, following a meeting with BP's incoming CEO Bob Dudley. As for the cost of the oil spill, Citigroup analysts say BP believes personal claims are not likely to use up the $20 billion compensation fund it created.
