Murdoch and son James appeared before the Commons parliamentary committee on Culture, Media and Sport.
The committee is investigating the phone hacking scandal at the Murdoch-owned News of the World newspaper.
The scandal has engulfed Murdoch's media empire, wiping more than $6 billion from its value.
