New York's daily newspapers target IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn amid allegations he sexually assaulted a hotel maid.
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK, UNITED STATES (MAY 17, 2011) REUTERS - New York City papers lambasted Dominique Strauss-Kahn on Tuesday (May 17) after the disgraced International Monetary Fund chief was denied bail on attempted rape charges and remanded to prison.
Daily city papers ran headlines such as 'No merci!' and 'He did have sex with the maid' above photos of the French politician in court for his arraignment.Previous headlines over the weekend included such colorful prose as 'French Whine!', 'French Toast' and 'That's Him!' after Strauss Kahn was identified in a police line-up.
Strauss-Kahn denies the charge that he sexually assaulted a maid in a Manhattan hotel on Saturday and says he has an alibi. He is next due to appear in court on May 20.
Strauss-Kahn's arrest has blown open the race for the French presidency, enhancing incumbent Nicolas Sarkozy's chances of re-election, and thrown the Fund into turmoil even as it plays a key role in helping euro zone states like Greece and Portugal tackle debt woes.
Strauss-Kahn faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted.
